Sustainability

Our goal as a company is to become as planet-friendly and operate as consciously as possible. We work with the Earth and our precious natural resources day-in and day-out and feel strongly that if we want to continue to enjoy living in it – protecting it is our responsibility.

Becoming a more sustainable business is a long-term commitment for us, PLG Group started from a small ‘garage business’ and grew to 3 entities and multiple teams with a lot of hard work. While there are many exciting plans in the pipeline, our impact has to grow as we do – so we aren’t where we would like to be just yet.

Some of Our Big Goals
carbon-nautral-certified

Proudly achieving Carbon Neutral status for 2020, using gold standard carbon credit.

To solve the problem of climate change, we all need to take account of our personal carbon emissions and make continued efforts to reduce them ourselves. … Going carbon neutral by purchasing carbon offsets is a practical and affordable way to do something about those remaining emissions.

Push for regulated standards of quality across our industries.

Currently there are no formal standards / accreditation / licensing / or registrations available to landscape designers or gardeners. We believe this lowers the bar for all of us, and is responsible for poor-quality workmanship by non-qualified tradesmen performing services and an overall unreliable standard of work.

Become a Certified B Corporation

This is a private certification for businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Committed to our People

Happy, engaged teams are crucial to a sustainable business and to delivering quality, long-lasting work for our customers. We aim to be a company with a reputation that makes people want to work with us and for us. We do this by providing an encouraging and supportive work environment, regular catch-ups with team members, paying an above-average rate to our full and part-time employees, along with building a community of trusted subcontractors by treating them respectfully and ethically. In the future, we aim to assist our people by offering money management up-skilling, industry training and up-skilling opportunities. The landscaping industry is tough on the body and we want our staff to be employable in the future when they can’t, or don’t want to, work long days on the tools any more.

Committed to our Planet
Perth Landscaping Group supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially numbers 13, Climate Action, and 15: Life On Land.

“Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.”

Two of our big steps toward supporting the SDG 15 are:

1. Proudly achieving Carbon Neutral status for 2020, using gold standard carbon credit.

This means that every vehicle, tool and resource we use this year is offset by the planting of trees – right here in WA. This is something that we are committed to re-achieving and exceeding every year, along with eventually offsetting all emissions generated since the inception of PLG Group, becoming a truly impact-free company.

2. Supporting WA’s Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund (CNCF).

The CNCF plants native trees on degraded land in Australia to reduce our carbon footprint, restore the landscape, and revive biodiversity. You can view their current projects here.

We also minimise our impact by how we operate on a day-to-day basis, such as:

Favouring natural grass and native gardens in our projects. We only use synthetics when it is the only possible option for a client and their location, but for a truly sustainable and waterwise garden, native and endemic plants are always best for the environment.

Choosing endemic plants. We use natives as much as possible within our landscape designs and installs. Using native plants that suit the soil and location of a garden allows for a more waterwise and hardy garden that will reduce the use of water required to maintain it.

Educating clients. We don’t just plant, we educate on the importance of also using a good quality mulch, along with natural soil improvers, to increase water retention, reduce water usage and improve the quality of the soil itself.

Being waterwise. Our teams are trained irrigation experts who specialise in creating water-saving reticulation systems.

Staying paper-free. We operate online and electronic as much as possible and use recycled paper when needed – we want to plant trees, not cut them down.

Sorting, reusing and recycling our waste.

We all live here – let’s do what we can to protect our planet.
